With deepest sorrow and heavy hearts, we inform you that on July 18, 2026, due to severe wounds received in battles for our Homeland, long-standing and insurmountable health problems, Colonel Hayk Harutyunyan suddenly passed away. He was the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Western Armenia, an Azatamartik, a veteran of all three Artsakh wars, the commander of the “Sose Mayrik” volunteer militia detachment, the chairman of the “Azatamartik” military-patriotic organization, a public and military figure, and our very dear friend and fellow ideological companion.
Hayk Harutyunyan was a noble and courageous personality, who during his 63 years of life became a wonderful example of patriotism, humanity, friendship, and high professionalism for everyone. Following the end of the First Artsakh War, Hayk Harutyunyan actively joined the veteran movement of the Azatamartiks. Leading the “Azatamartik” military-patriotic organization of volunteer militia, and despite numerous combat wounds, he was personally and directly involved in organizing daily assistance to wounded warriors and the families of our fallen Heroes.
Being a bright representative of the heroic generation of defenders of our Homeland and a descendant of those Sasun Armenians who lived with a longing in their hearts for their Homeland – Sasun, Hayk Harutyunyan at the same time always maintained hope and faith that the day and hour of the triumph of justice and the liberation of both his historical Homeland and Artsakh would finally come.
As the guardian of the Armenian hearth and a family man, and as one of the organizers of the Azatamartiks’ national volunteer militia movement, he passed these noble feelings on to his children, young warriors, and Azatamartiks, who today live by these high Armenian values. This was the calling of his soul. It is from such patriotic feelings that the image of a true Citizen and a true Armenian is formed.
We have always highly valued Hayk Harutyunyan’s patriotic and public activities, as well as his significant contribution to the development of the Defense Forces of the Armenians of Western Armenia. We also highly valued his responsible role in establishing the state structures of the Armenians of Western Armenia, including his service as the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Western Armenia and as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense, Internal Affairs, and National Security.
On behalf of the deputies of the Parliament of Western Armenia, members of the Government, all state structures of the Republic of Western Armenia, Azatamartiks, and fellow ideological companions, we express our deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and loved ones of Hayk Harutyunyan, and wish them fortitude and strength of spirit.
