Unacceptable statement and stance by Nikol Pashinyan: «Armenia’s new constitution should not contain reference to declaration of country’s independence»

The new constitution of Armenia should not contain a reference to the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on Facebook live Tuesday.

“I have clearly expressed my position on this issue, saying that the new constitution [of Armenia] should not contain a reference to the Declaration of Independence [of the country]. And what is the justification for this? Yesterday I spoke again, and in recent years I have been speaking about the need to not continue the Karabakh movement. If we adopt a new constitution today, and the text of that constitution contains a reference to the Declaration of Independence [of Armenia], it means that we are continuing the Karabakh movement. If we continue the Karabakh movement, it means that we are restarting the conflict with Azerbaijan. If we resume the conflict with Azerbaijan, it already means that peace is not possible,” Pashinyan stated, adding that this means accepting the talk about “Western Armenia” and “Armenia from sea to sea.”

According to him, the delicacy of this issue is that this practically means excluding discussions about “Western Azerbaijan,” “Eastern Turkey,” and other similar talk.
