Deputies from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party voted against a proposal to adopt a statement condemning the Armenian Genocide. Opposition MP and member of the Republican Party of Armenia Hayk Mamijanyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“A remarkable incident occurred during the 4th meeting of the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Partnership Committee held in Yerevan. I submitted nine proposals for the text of the final statement, one of which concerned Turkey’s recognition of the Genocide, and the resolution adopted by the European People’s Party in 2015 through the efforts of the Republican Party of Armenia was quoted verbatim.
The photo shows the moment of voting on this proposal. As you can see, in addition to the opposition (the other two are not visible in the photo), two members of the European Parliament voted for the proposal, and the members of the Civil Contract party voted against. That is, the Europeans were for the proposal condemning the Armenian Genocide, and the members of the Civil Contract party were against. The text of the submitted proposal, as well as a link to the video, are in the comments,” Mamijanyan noted.
